Anyone who has seen Pretty In Pink will agree with me that Duckie is just the greatest character EVER. Not only does he simply ooze impeccably personal style, but he is charming and hilarious. In short, I am totally in love with him (I just ignore the fact that Jon Cryer, who plays Duckie, ended up in Two And A Half Men).

Right now I'm in a Rolling Stones phase. I literally listen to Exile On Main Street three times in a row! It's such a great album. I'll come home from school and put my Stones albums in the stereo, cranking it up to an obnoxiously loud volume. It's kind of funny, my dad said he can remember listening to Exile when he was my exact age. Rocks Off is the first song on the album and it is just too cool.

Fiddler on The Roof

There is something way cool about standing on roofs! Maya has a garage facing her bedroom window and we always hang out on the roof of it. It's one of our favourite places to just relax.

Weekend Finds

Do you know those times where you're at a store and everything costs 50 cents and so you feel the need to buy absolutely everything?

I do ...

I've recently decided that I'm bringing the disposable camera back in style! My friend Justine and I bought disposable cameras and then decorated them with nail polish. We've taken a few pictures already but I want to be selective with the pictures I take with this camera. There's something very exciting about having a limited number of pictures you can take and then anticipating how they'll turn out.

Aren't I SUCH a talented artist?

I found those gloriously tacky hair extensions I used to wear as a kid. I wore all of them at once on Friday and I can't tell you how cool I felt!
Little heart-shaped plastic clips attach to your hair.
Honestly, who doesn't need a water gun? It's difficult to tell in this picture but we decorated the water gun and sunglasses with sparkly nail polish. The sunglasses are meant to fit the faces of toddlers but that didn't stop me from sporting them! The noisemakers speak for themselves (Haha, get it?).

These are some of my most successful purchases! The scrunchies were less than a dollar for a pack of two! They look identical to the American Apparel ones. I had everyone fooled! As for the nail polish, it was 25 cents. Need I say more?

Mission accomplished!

Wilco has done it again with an adorable new music video set to the song "Dawned on Me" (one of my favourites) from their newest album, The Whole Love. The animated video features the iconic Popeye the Sailor Man and his beloved gang. The quirky video is actually the first hand-drawn, frame by frame Popeye animation since 1987!

The Dawned On Me video seems to be just the beginning of a series of collaborations with Popeye. Another being this comic strip:

It's called Vestiphobia, which means a fear of clothing. Of course the title meant to be ironic and I find it very clever (partly because I helped come up with it). Do check it out!

A Mad Tea Party

I've used Maya, who usually takes pictures for the blog, as the subject of a photography assignment for school. We took a gazillion photos which I will eventually turn into a film. For now I wanted to share a few here. I'll show more of our pictures in posts to come!

Maya is wearing a Joe Fresh jacket, a white cardigan that I think was her mother's, Zara trousers, her dad's socks, shoes from The Bay, a binoculars case which she uses as a purse (shown in the 8th picture), and Forever 21 bows in her hair

Currently Obsessed With/A Wishlist

1. I've always loved the Lula Magazine editorials on Fashion Gone Rogue but the above video convinced me that my life is incomplete without a real life Lula zine.

2. SO obsessed with Iceland-based group, Of Monsters and Men (just an unnecessary side note: Of Mice and Men is a favourite book of mine). I've been listening to their album online and I cannot put into words how good their music is but I want to cry listening to them, not because their songs are sad but because that's the best way to describe the feeling I get listening to incredible music. (I realize I sound a little crazy) Their album My Head is An Animal was released in Iceland in September 2010 and will release worldwide in "early 2012" so keep your eyes open. Read: we are so ahead of the trend that we're listening to a band before their album releases worldwide. Their single "Little Talks" was only released on iTunes this month!

Mark my words: Of Monsters and Men is totally going to pull a Mumford and Sons and two years from now, everyone else will be listening to them . . . Also Rolling Stone called them "Iceland's Mumford and Sons".

3. Other musical obsession: The Sheepdogs. I've been meaning to blog about them for a while. Based in Saskatchewan (Yay Canada), The Sheepdogs were launched into the spotlight this past summer when they won Rolling Stone's "Choose The Cover" competition. Pretty much, the magazine hosted a contest to feature a virtually unknown upcoming band on the cover of their magazine. They have two albums, the later of which is called Learn & Burn and is equally as crazy good though their sound is very different. If you didn't know them, you'd think you were listening to any classic rock 'n roll album from the '70s. They remind me of The Stones meets Creedence Clearwater Revival meets The Allman Brothers (I know, quite the compliment).

So there you have it, what I'm currently obsessing over in the world of pop culture.

At Home With Chloë Sevigny

It's official, Chloe Sevigny is the coolest person in the world. I love when she flipped through her high school photographs in the last video. She totally embodied that rebel without a cause teenager that I've always kind of wished I was. My feeble attempts at the look resulted in a Nirvana tee shirt that sits in the back of my closet and a pair of Doc Martens . . . though I think the pink flower pattern on them kind of takes away from the grunginess.

A Lesson in Getting Dressed: A Formula for The Perfect Outfit

In this article, I break down a fail-proof formula for, as stated in the title, the perfect outfit. Refer to the formula below:

a pair of big circle sunnies + a chunky knit + a long tank/tee or collared shirt + skinnies + cool booties + a shoulder bag

Now, we will look at some examples of each element in this outfit.

To begin, the sunglass. 2 rules here: the rounder the better and the bigger the better. Typically I don't push the diva-with-the-obnoxiously-huge-sunglasses-look but in the case of the circle frame, your eyebrows WILL look funny if they aren't hidden by the sunglasses. Take it from me. I know.

Next, the knit. This piece of the outfit is absolutely crucial.

The key in this next element is layering. You can wear a collared shirt or substitute that for a long tank top or tee shirt. Extra points for colour blocking!

The skinny is not limited to a coloured or patterned (0r both) version, though recommended. And if it's lacking in said qualities, it should at least be suede or waxy or leather or corduroy etc. Regular blue jeans are a thing of the past.

A cool bootie, chelsea style or otherwise, is suitable for the foot.

How Do You Sit Still? Or Rather, How Do You Get Mistaken for Radiohead?

Here's a funny story.

Have you heard Radiohead's new unreleased demo with the dual titles of Putting Ketchup In The Fridge and How Do You Sit Still? The song, which apparently is from the Pablo Honey/The Bends era, was leaked onto the internet last week and created quite the frenzy.

Have a listen:

Sure sounds like a Radiohead song that definitely wouldn't be out of place on The Bends. Turns out this song is not by Radiohead. It's by a Canadian musician turned baker, Christopher Stopa and he entitled it Sit Still. The CNN video below explains the situation pretty well.

A happy coincidence for Stopa, it seems the recent publicity has lead him to give music another whirl (also lucky for me because now I have some new songs to listen to).

This may just be the coolest editorial ever! I'm extremely envious of the rad hair and makeup. It's times like these where I wish a professional stylist lived in my bathroom to help me get my hair to the perfect state of messiness.

I saw some really awesome vintage varsity jackets at the end of the summer and have regretted not buying them ever since. These pictures totally reinforce how much I need one!

Denim, Reinterpreted

This is one my favourite outfits of the late. I suppose you can call it a cooler-weather take on this ensemble. Ironically, I was having one of those days a couple weekends ago where I just had nothing to wear when I came up with this outfit. While wearing it, I was offered a job at one of my favourite clothing stores because the girl that worked that likes my sense of style (I didn't take it because I'm a year too young)! I find this often happens to me; I can't find a thing to wear but finally come up with an outfit that I can't take off!

Topped off with a favourite hairstyle: a ridiculous bun at the top of my head! This one flopped to the side a bit.

A Spot of Tea

Three sundays ago, I invited some girlfriends over for a birthday tea party. Sure my birthday was more than a month prior to the party but it's never too late for a celebration, right? Also, who doesn't love an excuse to dress up and put on british accents? Certainly not I!

I asked my guests to bring their own tea cups because I didn't have enough for everyone. Some people brought the most lovely cups and it led to an eclectic and whimsical selection!

I ended up having waaaay too much food (this isn't even all of it) but it was all scrumptious!

Coral lipstick? Check! Pastel nails? Check! Florals? Check! Ruffles? Check!

Socks? Of course!!

Mumford and Sons Concert!

A couple Tuesdays ago (this post is a tad overdue), my friend surprised me with an extra ticket to the Mumford and Sons concert that night! To say that I'm a fan is a bit of an understatement. The concert was everything I expected, ergo it was BRILLIANT! Mumford performed all the hits from their first album and quite a few brand new songs, to be included in the album they're currently working on, one of which made its debut in Toronto! I'd like to write a long detailed post of just how wonderful the concert was but I just wrote a review for my school newspaper so I'm a little Mumford-ed out!

Florence and The Machine and Karl Lagerfield and The Weeknd

I am highly anticipating the release of Florence and The Machine's second album, Ceremonials, out this Monday in North America. What I've heard so far from the album is just as alluring and enchanting and dark and haunting and magical and seductive as the first.

I dare you not to press replay after watching this video of the album's lead single, Shake it Out.

It's no surprise that the fashion industry is just as captivated by Florence herself as by her music. Anyone else notice her gracing the pages of street style blogs this past fashion month? Karl Lagerfield is one of many. He's collaborated with the band on limited edition vinyls. The following video explains it better. Collaborations make me so happy! Two fabulous creative personalities joining forces. . . it's just too much!

Finally, usually I'm no fan of remixes. In fact, I find them quite irritating. However, I can't help but eat my words when it comes to the Shake It Out remix by The Weeknd (which was featured in the previous video).

She reminds me of Annie Lennox.

I hope all my fellow Canadians had a lovely Thanksgiving! I've spent my thanksgiving weekend with friends, enjoying the gorgeous weather we've been having in Toronto. I got away with wearing shorts a few times for what may be my last opportunities of the year!

Wearing my favourite outfit ever, in which I pretend that I am much, much cooler than I really am! I love all the colours, from the bright blues of my pants and headband (ahem, turBAND) to the mustard yellow of my beloved Cambridge Satchel and my coral lipstick.

Let's take a moment to discuss how perfect these sunglasses are! My darling sister Ally gave them to me as a birthday present (after very subtly hints like "Ally, get these sunglasses for me for my birthday!") Thanks, Al!

You must be tired of reading my obsessive ramblings about Wilco, but bear with me one last time: Today was the release date of the band's newest album, The Whole Love! My dad and I planned on picking up a copy today from the music store, but we unfortunately never got around to it. Oh well, there is always tomorrow! When I went to their concert two weeks ago, Wilco played a few songs from The Whole Love, opening with Art of Almost, an absolutely brilliant tune with dazzling guitar work thanks to the equally brilliant Nels Cline.

On a completely unrelated note, I'm wearing my new overalls in these pictures, which are quickly becoming a favourite feature in my wardrobe. I suppose there's something about overalls that instantly put me in a good mood! I mean, what's more fun than overalls?

Hi All!

First off, I'd like to apologize profusely for neglecting to update this blog for the past month! I promise I have not forgotten of you dear readers! Well my summer has been absolutely wonderful, as was the beginning of my school year. I turned 15 last Tuesday and I went to a Wilco concert on Saturday (I know it's been a while but, to refresh your memory, I am positively obsessed with the band).

There are a number of outfits that I wore consistently throughout the summer (I am a firm believer in wearing the exact same outfit over and over again). Hopefully, I'll have time to wear my favourites one last time for this blog before the weather turns too cold. Here are pictures of the outfit that I perhaps wore 1(million) too many times.

Please excuse the quantity of these pictures. Editing isn't my strongest skill. Perhaps they'll make up for the lack of content over the past few months.

Oh goodness, I look like such a blogger with my Cambridge Satchel! It, along with my Swedish Hasbeen clogs, is now a staple in almost every outfit of mine.

Sunrise over Sea

I was fortunate enough to attend Osheaga, a music festival in Montreal, this past weekend! My friends and I went specifically to see John Butler Trio, which we absolutely adore. They were only on for about 50 minutes, which was a shame, but an impressive 50 minutes they were! Other performances that weekend included Eminem (who recieved rave reviews. I wasn't there for his performance), Janelle Monae, Elvis Costello, Death Cab for Cutie and City and Colour, to name a few.

(My John Lennon-esgue sunnies and braided leather bag were perfect for the occasion. As were a pair of vintage Docs -which you can see the toe of if you look closely- that came home distinctly more muddy than they left!)

Other than that, I've been enjoying a slow relaxing summer, which is to blame for my lack of blogging! I hope everyone is enjoying their summers as much as I am.

I am absolutely head-over-heals for their new untitled track (though it has been nicknamed 'Home' by fans), a love ballad to the group's left behind friends and family while on the road.

In other news, also regarding a favourite band of mine, Wilco's new album, The Whole Love, is due to come out September 27th! They have already released their first song, I Might, which you can listen to here. After hearing this song a few times (it get's even better with every listen) I am highly anticipating the rest of the album!

Calling All Radio-heads (Radiohead Heads?)

You may know by now that I am positively obsessed with Radiohead. What's Radiohead's latest and greatest? From The Basement, of course! From The Basement is a podcast and now television program created by Nigel Goldrich, Radiohead's producer, often known as the "sixth band member." The whole philosophy of From The Basement is on the website so I won't bore you with it.

Now, Radiohead has released a brand new track called Staircase from their new album, King of Limbs, which they recorded for the podcast. Staircase is not on the King of Limbs album but I imagine it may be on a special addition album in the future, just as there is a special edition album of In Ranbows, featuring an entire second disk with exclusive songs.

Without further ado, Staircase:

I really like how you never see the entire band, only close-ups of each individual member. I think it truly emphasizes the brilliance of each instrument's significant role in how the songs come together. Radiohead's music is so layered and it is mind boggling to see the individual pieces of the puzzle and how they fit together.

The same podcast was done for In Rainbows, their last album, as will be done for King of Limbs (the date for the King of Limbs podcast isn't known yet but will hopefully air within the next month. Rumor had it that it was supposed to air today, but I guess that couldn't happen).

How brilliant is this?! It's an hour long so you better have the time to watch the whole thing (I love that you can watch the whole thing on Youtube)! They perform most of In Rainbows (I don't think they do Jigsaw Falling into Place), a couple stuff from Hail To The Thief and they close with a song from the special addition In Rainbows album that I have never heard before. A few notes: Thom York (lead singer) is absolutely brilliant (and totally twisted. Note his crazy dancing)! Look at how many instruments he plays throughout the video! Also the drummer, Phil Selway, is wonderful. Colin Greenwood, the bass player is talented beyond words. His younger brother Jonny Greenwood collaborates with York as one of the bands creative forces.

On another note, I never realized how guitar-driven Radiohead is! I think there are four guitarists including York.

These pictures were taken a little while ago. I'm wearing these shorts and I am thrilled that I found a way to wear them in warm weather as they are wool and I had thought I'd only be able to wear them with tights in the winter. Hah! Isn't that funny, a pair of shorts that work better in winter than summer. My friend made fun of me when they saw me in my "Winter Shorts" throughout the months of January and February.

These are some of my favourite resort wear collections. You know, with the menswear shows going on and those dandy mens streetstyle pictures by Tommy Ton and others, it's lucky that designers are taking note of those sharp, tailored suits and classic brogues for the womenswear resort collections! I love that tomboy, androgynous style as much as the next fashion-crazed teenager, but what makes these collections stand out is their subtle use of femininity in juxtaposition (a lace glove here, a mary-jane platform there, and a few giant bows).

Resort Wear 2012 . . . Part 2

The theme of yesterday's post was the works of Marc Jacobs. While today's collections are all by very different designers, they are congruent in that they all have a shcleppy chic (schlic) vibe with elements of cotton, knit, and unconventional leather.

3.1 Phillip Lim's resort wear consisted of the usual perfectly slouchy separates. I mean, how fantastic are those knit shorts and cozy sweaters?

Surprisingly, I was not bouncing up and down about Alexander Wang's collection. The T by Alexander Wang collection was a whole other story! There are certain T pieces that are reinvented every season (like that ruched jersey skirt in the last two photos) that always look great and never seem to go out of style.

Resort Wear 2012 . . . Part I

Hi everyone! With the resort collections out, I figured I'd do a little summary of my favourite looks from my favourite collections. I'm not sure how many parts there will be to my resort wear posts as my desktop is absolutely full of pictures!

The one thing that I love about resort collections is that every one always has that relaxed, easy breezy vibe. With such small collections, resort isn't about putting on that over-the-top runway show but rather creating a solid collection composed of wearable pieces. With that being said, some of this season's collections are a little bland, full of good pieces, of course, but nothing super exciting. Nonetheless, other collections, like the ones you'll see here, are simply darling, in my opinion.

Okay, unimportant rambling aside, let's begin. We'll start with Marc Jacobs, who created three perfect resort collections.

Smells Like Teen Spirit

I began my summer vacation yesterday on a perfect note! My friends and I walked to Kensington Market (and it was about an hour long walk, at least!), a hip and artistic area with cool vintage shopping and great little restaurants. We snapped a few pictures at Kensington and on the way there. It's one of those great neighbourhoods that is so special to Toronto's aesthetic.

Me in my new sunglasses that I bought for $4.99! The man in the shop said that they were vintage but considering the sticker that said 'Made in Taiwan' and the two other identical pairs, I'm a little doubtful of that! Nonetheless, I'm super excited about them as I've been wanting a pair like them forever!

I call this one 'The Shopping Cart in The Tree':

We had lunch at a delicious cafe that I unfortunately forget the name of. I do remember that it claimed to have the best gourmet coffee in town.

Maya and I unintentionally dressed like twins! We both wore oversized jean jackets with shorts and Docs, and we bought similar sunglasses:

And our Doc Martens. Maya bought hers from House of Vintage (0ne of my favourite vintage shops in the city) a couple of days ago. They are pre-worn in!

As to the title of this post, I recently was out with a friend wearing this exact outfit (because I always wear the same outfits over and over) when we passed to woman not bothering to lower their voices as they shamelessly bagged on my outfit. I took it as a compliment. Also the first woman used vulgar language but I edited it out because this blog is family friendly. That's all.

Allow me to explain the following picture . . . I really couldn't help myself. Whoever made that sign has no idea how real humans walk . . . well, all except me!

Take A Chance On Me

You know how I just adore commercials and short fashion films. These three commercials are so simple and perfectly sweet. I was watching Fashion Television a few days ago and these three were played over and over, almost back to back. I usually find a commercial that is replayed to often to be irritating but there is something about Chanel's commercials. They are always well done and always capture me in their simplicity and elegance.

The Clothing Show . . . Part 1

Yesterday I attended The Clothing Show, a three day design show for both vintage shops and new independent designers. Many local stores and designers were featured and runway shows ran throughout (fashion show pictures will be in Part 2).

A gown per decade: from the '20s to the '70s!

Can you spot the knock-off Alexander Wang sunglasses? I was very tempted to buy them to complete my Wang S/S '10 inspired outfit!

Perhaps the highlight of the day was the selection of glorious hats, both vintage and new.

My friend and I stumbled across the booth of 69 Vintage, one of my favourite vintage stores in Toronto!

Check out these incredible vintage Doc Martens from 69 Vintage!

I was tempted to buy a scarf from 69 last time I was there, and tempted again yesterday. They were each about $10 and the perfect size and shape for a turban! I couldn't make a decision on which one to get so I ended up with none at all!

This beautiful antique telephone is so charming!

Two Sundays ago, I visited the Distillery District for brunch at a delicious restaurant called The Boiler House. Of course, as with every time I find myself at the Distillery District, I had to make a stop at Lileo, which is probably one of my favourite clothing stores in Toronto. Apart from carrying the coolest clothes for both men and women from all over the world (often Lileo carries brands that aren't found anywhere else in the city), Lileo is stocked with beautiful coffee table book and decorated with artwork that I only wish was for sale as well!

Some of my favourite pieces of mine were bought at Lileo. I once bought a pair of jeans by an australian brand called Nobody from Lileo. I wore them so much that my mom finally had to beg me to get rid of them as they were covered in holes. I wouldn't let her take them away! A year ago I bought a Free People skirt from the store which I also wore to death.
